Inspiration
Steven wanted to know how much salt he was putting in the pot during cooking.
What it does
Weighs the contents and allows for dispensing the contents through small holes without tipping the spoon.
How we built it
Aluminum from cans, servo for switching spoon modes, load cell for measuring weight, 4-digit 7-segment display to display the weight, Arduino mega and electronics to put everything together.
Challenges we ran into
Lack of materials and faulty electronic components (four servos seemed to not work). Also ensuring everything was connected properly was important as we were often unsure.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a decent-looking spoon from a unique idea.
What we learned
Make sure to check all your components work!
What's next for Smart spoon
- Better materials: for better stiffness, better (and working) electronics, and construct in more compact size.
- Modes: switching mechanism could be upgraded from servo to servo and gear chain or stepper motor. Also could add more modes such as a hole mode.
- Wireless implementation: using an integrated circuit for portability.
