Inspiration
Students fed up with the constant blocking and unblocking of websites when using a traditional website blocker.
What it does
Leverage AI to reason with users that try to access an initially blocked website to streamline productivity.
How we built it
We utilised Hugging Face's Transformers.js library to pick a super light weight model that users could download locally when they installed our chrome extension.
Challenges we ran into
As it was our first time creating a Chrome extension, we faced some challenges in understanding the documentation and applying it effectively.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating an effective prompt that enabled our lightweight model to achieve a higher level of accuracy.
What we learned
We gained insights into creating a Chrome extension, using models with Hugging Face, and mastering prompt engineering.
What's next for SmartBlock
We aim to introduce a teacher-student interface, allowing teachers to actively ban websites for multiple students. There will be two types of bans: permanent bans and normal ones, where students can reason with AI for educational purposes or specific tasks assigned by the teacher.
