Inspiration
Taking notes and listening in class are hard to do simultaneously. You either listen, learn, or try doing both badly. This causes a lot of frustration, especially if your professor only writes on the whiteboard, mumbles/has an accent, or doesn’t share presentation slides. This leads to students needing to learn the entire course for the first time when studying for midterms or finals, causing plenty of sleepless nights and plenty of stress.
What it does
To solve the issue of it being hard to take notes and listening to lectures simultaneously, SmartNotes attempts to analyze lectures to figure out the key points that are trying to be taught and suggests key words, formulas, or images from the lecture/video to allow the user to drag-and-drop notes into their own local notes webpage.
How we built it
Focused on the mission design process. Asking what is our problem, what are possible solutions, how can we achieve those solutions, etc. From there I vibe-coded it, making sure handle errors/troubleshoot along the way.
Challenges we ran into
Learning curve of how to make a live server (downloading Docker, NodeJS, npm, etc and then everything not working how the tutorials mention)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting the project to where it is right now from nothing less than 24 hrs ago.
What we learned
How to vibecode. Do not trust AI to get things right
What's next for SmartNotes
Now that we have an MVP, what's next for SmartNotes is to follow the design intent in terms of design, feel, and ease-of-use. Also to update our chatbots to give better responses for their respective objectives.
