Inspiration

This simple AI was built to bring a little bit more joy into the world by forcing people to smile or facing the wrath of Gordan Ramsay.

What it does

Our project does simple facial recognition and detects if the person is smiling or not. When they are not smiling it will play audio of Gordan Ramsay yelling an insult at the user so that they laugh or at least feel obligated to smile.

Challenges we ran into

There were a number of challenges along the way for this project since there were no members of our team who had previous experience working with machine learning or creating web applications using python. One of the largest and first challenges that we ran into was getting over the initial learning curve of machine learning. We spent a large majority of our weekend taking crash courses on neural networks and other ML concepts. Another challenge that we had ran into was getting our webcam feed to properly display on our webpage, and we had to develop a patchwork solution to have SmileFinder display the edited feed.

What we learned

Our team learned a number of different skills. This was our first time working with Machine Learning and Python web applications, so all of us have picked up some new knowledge in both of these areas

What's next for SmileFinder

We are going to continue working on SmileFinder and refining it's abilities, especially since we have already discovered many fixes for bugs in our code. We hope to deploy it on a web server by the end of the year.
