Sound Shapes

Inspiration

Music creation, found sounds, audio from the world around us, the human voice.

What it does

We worked in collaboration with Artiphon Inc to create this music tool, allowing you to turn any sound into a looping shape, in AR space. Combine multiple sounds to create your own, augmented reality composition. Tap the screen one to record a sound, you can create up to six of them in total. Tap+hold to move an existing sound shape. And double tap to delete an existing sound shape.

How we built it

We used custom javascript code in Lens Studio to create this lens.

Challenges we ran into

This is quite a complex lens, both technically because we're using the lens preview space to capture content in the form of audio, as well as in terms of the UX and how some of the key interactions conflict with Snaps own UI controls.

What's next for Sound Shapes

We have some further product development in mind to expand both the features of the sound shape concept, and looking at building out the music creation functionality further, so you could combine your own voice with existing music samples.
