SoushiChef

Inspiration

What initially drove us to make SoushiChef was our lack of skills in the kitchen. We wanted clear and simple instructions without fuss and decided to dedicate ourselves to this project. It's also much more hygienic to avoid touching screens or recipe books in the middle of cooking or baking!

What it does

SoushiChef is a WebApp designed to be your personal Sous Chef in the kitchen. SoushiChef offers a wide variety of meals and will help guide you to make the perfect dish using clear graphics, precise and understandable quantities, timekeeping, and much more!

How we built it

The backend is entirely written in Python using the Django framework. The frontend is written in HTML and CSS with some JS.

Challenges we ran into

One of the largest challenges was designing the UI. We wanted SoushiChef to be very simple and had to find a balance between aesthetic and function. On the backend side, we ran into some technical issues surrounding ajax requests and database access. This became a huge time sink that took away a lot of potential growth for our project within the time constraints.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are most proud of the fact that we were working together every step of the way with respect and maintaining efficiency.

What we learned

We learned a lot of technical skills such as AJAX and async functions but we also learned the importance of clear communications.

What's next for SoushiChef

Unfortunately, due to issues between the Django framework and Node.js we had to scrap the live bot that one could speak to and receive answers from. Given time, we will surely put this together to further push the goal of SoushiChef!
