Inspiration

We have been very frustrated in the past by parking mishaps and difficulties. We wanted a solution so we build one ourselves.

What it does

Stores parking information to direct you to the nearest parking lot. It will update frequently in order to provide you with the most up-to-date information.

How we built it

Built it using the Flask Python framework and a custom Python cloud backend. The hardware and POST local server demo was build on pure C and C++

Challenges we ran into

We had limited access to hardware and had to quickly design and test hardware and software that had to perfectly work together to make our system work. We had to test well over 100 different networking system versions before we found one that worked for us. We ran into lots of database failures and unresponsiveness.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The speed in which we accomplished so much.

What we learned

We learned how to work under stress with a team and to work efficiently among multiple people.

What's next for Space Spotter

Possibly going on to become an actual service. Who knows? Maybe one day you will find a parking spot faster while using our service.

posted an update

Unfortunately during our presentation we ran out of time. To simplify what you missed: we build our own server and website database from scratch. That arduino demo with the moving cars was plugged into the computer and the computer made legitimate API calls, complete with encrypted authorization. The web server is publically accessible on port 80 of the YCP Hacks wifi network at 10.64.128.73
