Inspiration
Our inspiration for the Huawei challenge, was to create an effortless gamified environment where users have so much fun, they don't even realize they're helping to improve OpenStreetMap. We took Splatoon's idea of colorful turf wars to the real world.
What we learned
We learned a lot about app development with Android Studio, creating and training machine learning models, Augmented Reality techniques and team work. And we are capable of a lot more than we anticipated.
How we built our project
- Android Studio: Mobile App IDE
- TensorFlow: Machine Learning
- Mapbox: Map Display
- Flask: Backend
- ARCore: Augmented Reality
- Blender: Modelling
- SQLite: Databases
Challenges we've faced
There were many challenges along the way. We ran into problems with the complexity of Android Component Lifecycles. One of the most challenging parts was the coloration of our map. Creating and training a machine learning model with barely any prior knowledge, was also quite a lot of work.
