Inspiration
We were tired of having to manually calculate who owed what every time we ate at a restaurant or went to buy groceries, so we decided to come up with a solution.
What it does
It takes in information on the purchase and calculates who owes what. It also keeps track of a user's total spending
How we built it
We used React.js, Firebase and TailwindCSS for this application. We also constructed the algorithms in javascript.
Challenges we ran into
Although we ran into countless issues regarding both React.js and Firebase, our biggest challenge was designing our database's schema. It was a challenge to design an efficient and simple schema.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of how well we collaborated throughout this project. It was a demanding task and our teamwork is what truly allowed us to make major strides.
What we learned
We learned a huge variety of things, whether it be locking routes to constructing firebase queries.
What's next for SplitIt
Our future plans are to add support to scan receipts as images rather than having to manually construct each item/price field
