Inspiration
Our inspiration was the hand gel dispenser being part of the Biovigil Badge-based hand washing system, something so simple being part of a more complex idea/system.
What it does
Our innovative idea uses the simple idea of counter, but implements it for a specifc use. Spongey allows doctors to better keep track of the sponges and clamps they put in a patient during a surgery in order to prevent the appliances from being forgotten inside the patient, which can cause Sepsis.
How we built it
We built this application with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a few challenges along the way such as merge conflicts with GitHub and problems with coding that required a team effort to debug.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the originality of our idea and how it uses a simple counter in a much more impactful way.
What we learned
We learned how to work as a team with diverse and unique skillsets and also how to handle GitHub merge conflicts and Git CLI issues
What's next for Spongey
Spongey is still in its early stages and we hope to make it automactic. One way we could make it automatic is by using a scale to measure and detect when a sponge or clamp is taken for use and put back. This would allow the doctor to have full concentration on the surgery at hand.
