Inspiration
STAIJA was inspired by the critical need to nurture Africa's next generation of scientist-leaders. The founders recognized that while Africa has immense potential for scientific innovation and economic growth, there was a significant gap in structured research training and mentorship opportunities for ambitious students across the continent.
The inspiration came from seeing talented high school and gap year students who were passionate about science but lacked access to hands-on research experience, mentorship from leading scientists, and a supportive community of like-minded peers. STAIJA was born from the vision that by investing in young scientists and researchers, we can drive innovation-led economic growth and create lasting positive change across Africa.
What it does
STAIJA is a comprehensive platform that nurtures Africa's next generation of scientist-leaders through two flagship programs:
StepUp Scholars - Nigeria's premier research program providing hands-on research training, mentorship, and a supportive cohort community for high school and gap year students. The program offers:
- Real research projects with experienced mentors
- One-on-one guidance from leading scientists
- A supportive community of like-minded students across Nigeria
- Comprehensive application and tracking system
Dynamerge - A flagship summer boot camp that brings together talented high school students from across Africa for intensive research and innovation experiences. The program focuses on:
- Collaborative interdisciplinary projects
- Innovation and creative problem-solving
- Real-world challenge solutions
- Cross-border scientific collaboration
The platform also includes:
- Alumni Portal - A community space for graduates to share stories, network, and stay connected
- Content Management System - Powered by Contentful for dynamic blog posts, program updates, and impact stories
- Donation System - Multiple payment methods to support program expansion
- Application Management - Complete workflow for student applications and tracking
- User Authentication - Role-based access control for students, alumni, staff, and administrators
