Inspiration
My younger sibling is a special needs student and due to remote learning, he was struggling in school. He did not get that much assistance as he did in the classroom. He was having difficulty taking notes and difficulty in reading things so I thought of creating something that could help kids like him.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
I am very proud of creating the whole website in such a time scrunch. I think the design came out pretty well. I also liked the notes dashboard. I'll definitely use it myself.
Challenges we ran in to:
I did not have that much experience in using bootstrap and coding in javascript. In fact, I was an absolute beginner in javascript but by the end of this hackathon, I was able to learn how to do several things in js. Also, I did not know how to save the notes for the note-taking web app so I had to read up on Web APIs and local storage.
How we built it
I built the website using JS, HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap. For the login page, I used PHP. I created the Notes App using JS. I created the Note-taker using JS, Web API, and local storage.
What's next:
I the future I hope to expand STEP Ed by adding in educational games children can play and adding a point system to motivate the students to learn and read more.
