Inspiration

One of the biggest challenges we faced coming into Uni was finding a natural way to make friends and find people to connect with. We thought that since studying is so common amongst all students, why not use it as a way for students to connect and meet friends?

What it does

Studdies is an app that helps students meet other students through studying together in person. It allows users to create study sessions on campus, which other students can join in order to earn points which can be redeemed for vouchers and other discounts.

How we built it

Studdies was built with Python using the Django framework, as well as Bootstrap for CSS styling and allauth for authentication.

Challenges we ran into

All of our members were first years and hence relatively new to app development, hence one of the biggest difficulties was learning everything as we went along. Additionally, due to other commitments of our members, finding suitable times to meet each week was difficult.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have made it to the end of the Hackathon with a (somewhat) working prototype of our app.

What we learned

We learnt how app development works and the different frameworks and platforms required to make it function, as well as a deeper understanding of how startups function.

What's next for Studdies

Finishing our app prototype and polishing it up so that it can be deployed and be used by students.
