Project Story

We as a team dread the idea of studying alone, all the stress that comes along with studying and meeting deadlines, and the feeling of helplessness and loneliness that are induced by tunnelling our vision and making each student more and more overwhelmed. We found all these experiences that come along with studying greatly change when you are not alone but with a friend or in a group. All these overwhelming feelings suddenly aren't so unmanageable. Hence, the invention of the study buddy.

What is Study Buddy?

Study Buddy is an app, currently catered towards USYD students, where students can find and meet other students who want to study together within a certain radius. A student can find other students and meets depending on matching subjects, courses, or just to have someone to study with to lessen the overwhelming feelings. Once a student logs into the app, they can select what they want to study at the moment and then go up online where other students can see and invite them to study together.

How was the project built?

The project front end (no-sleep developer) was done using CSS and HTML to do the interface and the back end was done using flask and python, while data management was done in SQL.

Challenges

There were a lot of technical challenges where we were not certain what to do, so often we would backtrack and have to change the code. Other challenges included finding the right member for the right job, deciding on a feasible but yet innovative and impressive idea, lack of sleep and poor time management.
