Inspiration

We were inspired by the productivity app called "Forest" and wanted to make our own spin-off of it since our team is interested in productivity and we also tend to do our homework together in a Discord call. However, we always run into the issue of getting distracted whilst doing homework so we thought this project idea will help keep us on task by giving us the incentive of designing and growing our own virtual garden.

How we built it

We started using Miro (a collaborative whiteboard) to get basic sketches of how we wanted the app to be organized. We then transferred those ideas into AdobeXD and made the designs more polished and detailed there.

Challenges we ran into

Our main challenge was the learning curve of AdobeXD as well as one of our teammates not owning their own PC so we had to do a remote desktop for her to control another teammate's PC to work on AdobeXD. We're also perfectionists so there were countless times of us moving things ever so slightly to get it to look "centered" or trying to change the color to the right shade.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're definitely proud of our logo design! It took forever to perfect but it was well worth it.

What we learned

Overall, this designathon helped us get more familiar with the process of developing a UI/UX through the workshops that were provided as well as more in-depth knowledge on various software that can be used for designing.

What's next for Study Buds

Study Buds has lots of potential and there is still some room for improvement. We intended on having more features such as a wider variety of plants to obtain, a "pant-pedia" for recognizing which plants have been obtained, more decorative items that aren't plants, expansion of the gardens, and different unlockable "garden themes".
