Inspiration

Our inspiration is derived from the constant burden of having to find study locations on campus.

What it does

Our Website is designed to allow users to generate random study spot locations on campus and provide them with information such as address, operations times, food availability, and bus routes on each location.

How we built it

We began by creating a dataset for each location since there was no readily available dataset that had all the information that we needed. This dataset was then saved in an array of objects in JSON and alongside we imported an image folder that stored all images of the location. Once we had our dataset we began implementing the front-end where we were able to randomly generate an index from the JSON file array and then display all the attributes at that index. These attributes were the name of the image file, the building name, the location of the building, its operating hours, the bus routes near the location, and the food places near the study location.

Challenges we ran into

We had a hard time finding a dataset that contained the information we were looking for. In the end, we ended up researching and creating our dataset through information presented on the internet and using the RTS Bus App. We also had an issue with our pictures not properly rendering and showing up on the screen, luckily we were able to resolve the issue through a mentor's help.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to create a neat-looking function website that does the basic tasks we initially designed it for.

What we learned

We got to learn about the different resources and locations UF has to offer during our research phase. We also learned a lot of trust and moral support, we could not have done this project without the support and help of the amazing WiNGhacks team and our team members.

What's next for StudyAlli

We have a lot of things we plan to implement in the future for StudyAlli. First and foremost we want to conduct a campus-wide survey to ask UF students what they look for when searching for a study spot additionally we would ask them about their favorite or secret study spots. This way we can learn from our users and expand our dataset. As for the feature on the app, moving forward, we plan to have this website be compatible with mobile phones so students can access it any time they wish. In addition, we also plan to add a location tracker that can use the user's location to see how far a study spot is from the user.
