Inspiration
As students ourselves, we have noticed that education is a really important factor in our lives that will help us reach our following goals in life, whether that is getting an internship, career advancement, or social good. However, getting an education can be expensive as hirings tutors and going to college is not always the idea. Thus, we can help students all across America with their education using AI-powered tools to make educational resources available to everyone.
What it does
Our project, Study Savant, allows anyone to interact with textbooks (MIT OpenCourseWare Textbooks) as well as video captions and summaries. We do this by having the student use the chat system, where they can generate flashcards, create review notes, and make a summary review of the inputted information. Furthermore, this technology is then embedded in Notion, an already-established study app that can help you maximize your study plans and thoughts. We did this because students can just automatically interact with the Notion app, and it will be a feasible and quick feature to adopt. Once the notes or study cards are generated, the student will be able to access all that information in Notion as the app creates a new embedded page.
How we built it
We built a front end using Nextjs that we integrate into Notion, where users can interact with the Notion platform. The front end talks to our backend, which using vector databases to search and query information.
Challenges we ran into
We faced numerous challenges along the way, such as making our frontend seamlessly integrate with notion, and getting our backend to work seamlessly the Notion API.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we have excellent prompt engineering through GPT and the innovative solution that allows students to interact with an integrated platform with Notion
What we learned
We learned how we can use the Notion API as well as the vector databases like Chroma and advanced features in Next.js to create a seamless integrated platform.
What's next for Study Savant
Keeping our users' best interests at heart, we plan to beta-launch our technology to local students at institutions such as UTD and SMU. As we progress, we will incorporate additional features into our integrated app and continue expanding our reach throughout Texas.
