Inspiration

What inspired us to create this project is the lack of free education around the world. A result of rising inflation and the pandemic has made education an impractical and expensive affair to even entertain, so StudyTeach was built because of these struggles. We wanted to create something that will allow people to learn new skills at no cost while also sharing their knowledge with someone else. At the same time, we wanted to create something that helped our environment.

What it does

This app will allow users to request to be taught any skill from our wide variety of subjects, and any other user on our app, who is comfortable with that skill can offer to meet through video call for a tutoring session. The students will learn any vital skills they need and in return, the teacher will be rewarded with points that can be used to request other tutoring sessions. The more points a user earns through teaching, the more sessions they will be able to request and learn from.

How we built it

We built this using Thunkable, but if we were granted more time, we would build this using JavaScript and Swift.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenge we ran into was our inexperience with Thunkable. This really became our “Achilles heel” because a lot of our pages would’ve been built faster if we used more familiar programs like MIT App Inventor.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

First, this group is really proud of how we were able to work together and use our strengths and weaknesses to create such a useful app. Second, we love how this app not only helps millions of people around the world get the education they deserve but it also helps our planet and humanitarian crises across the globe. So we are so proud of how impactful and useful this app is.

What we learned

As half of our group had never attended a hackathon before, it was a great learning experience for them. We also learned how to manage our time, delegate and complete tasks in a timely manner, and brainstorm for ideas.

What's next for StudyTeach

Next, we are planning to expand on our prototype by building a web app version of StudyTeach using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
