Inspiration
After reflecting on our university experiences, we decided to make a website that could help students in regards to studying.
What it does
This website currently has some mentioned recommended and non-recommended studying methods, study timer, and a motivational quote generator.
How we built it
All of this was built with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, using Visual Studio Code.
We built part of this website in before the hackathon. Specifically, that would be the website layout with the navigation bar, footer, background, and studying method cards; these are all shown and explained in the demo video.
For this hackathon, we focused on making the study timer and motivational quote generator, along with the style formatting for these two features.
Challenges we ran into
Since we were entirely new to JavaScript and relatively new to HTML and CSS, we had some troubles with using certain aspects of the languages, such as the different syntax in Javascript compared to the other coding languages and the use of different properties in CSS. Another challenge that we faced was the implementation of the timer, which presented scenarios that we haven't considered until we tested the timer.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of being able to complete the two features within these two days, while learning the new languages at the same time.
What we learned
We learned how to use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript together to build a website. We also were reminded about how we should consider the different scenarios for the timer better, so that we don't encounter bugs in the future.
What's next for StudyWeb
Another feature that we could include for StudyWeb would be a "schedule," which could be like a customized schedule of timers to follow for a study session. We can also link to some resources in our Resources page that we think would be helpful for studying.
