Inspiration
Our topic is Python Automation, we decided to use this opportunity to solve a problem many people face during a lockdown. According to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, the number of American adults reporting symptoms of anxiety and depression rose by 31%. After researching for a while we concluded that the lockdown has taken a huge toll on our mental health. We discussed an idea on how to reduce the negative mental effects.
What it does
Our project gives people the option to key in why they need help and our algorithm finds 3 articles from the internet which provides the users to overcome the problems they are facing. We also implemented a section where they can find numbers to helplines in desired areas where they can dial in the number and talk to someone who can comfort them.
How we built it
The tool we used to create this useful website is Flask. Flask allows us to build web-application using python. We also used a module called searchgoogle that helps python to search google and get the top searches and implements them in our website.
Challenges we ran into
During the course of the event, we faced many challenges. First, we were unsure of how to integrate the sensitive topic of Lockdown into the topic of Python Automation. Next, we were unclear on how to integrate our python code into a website which was solved by the suggestion of using Flask or Django. Next, we faced a few syntax errors at the final stages of our coding which was solved with the help of our Mentors.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created something that can help people through even through lockdown
What we learned
During the course of the event, the team as a whole learnt a lot of information about the topic. We learnt how to code python in a more efficient manner and learnt how to code faster. As a team, we all learnt how to manage time efficiently.
What's next for Support Bot
The future plans of our project is to advance into different areas of mental health and help people overcome it. We also want to make the searches more accurate. We would also like to make the website look better and be more user friendly.
