Background
Transportation is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, with personal vehicles accounting for over 40% of CO₂ emissions in urban areas globally. In the United States, transportation alone is responsible for nearly 29% of total greenhouse gas emissions – the largest single contributor to climate change. Among these, nearly 60% of these emissions come from passenger cars and light-duty trucks, used predominantly for short commutes like those to and from schools and universities. (Source: epa.gov)
Thousands of college students commute to school every day, many of them driving alone, which not only contributes to rising emissions but also puts a financial strain on students. With parking permits prices on the rise and no guaranteed parking spots, many students are left feeling frustrated. Despite the financial and environmental benefits of carpooling, students often face challenges finding suitable carpool partners due to mismatched schedules, routes, and preferences. A user-friendly solution is needed to connect students with shared routes, promoting carpooling that is both practical and sustainable.

How we built it
We used FigJam for our product brainstorm and Figma to design our wireframe and high-fidelity prototype.
Challenges we ran into
We were unsure which features to include in our finished prototype, because we had many different ideas going into the wireframing stage. After bringing this up with mentor Alan Cortez, we made several simplifications to our flow map which really helped us narrow our scope.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of building a fully working prototype and the UI/UX processes that went into it, such as our flow map, competitive analysis and mood board.
What we learned
We learned how to use UX processes to really consider the justifications for each design decision in our app. We also learned how to use Figma to work together as a team.
What's next for Tad Pool
There are many other features we still want to ideate on, such as an event carpool management system for student organizations, and a fully functioning reward system with discounts for local businesses.
