Inspiration
Tagait was looking for a device or app that would let them track the position of their vehicles as a security measure.
What it does
Cost efficient way to track cars in real time from your smartphone or computer.
How We built it
We developed a script in Python to capture the position of the vehicle it is attached to every 12 seconds; and to upload the data every 1 minute. A web app that shows your vehicle's live position. The server stores up to fifteen days of data so users can look at their route history. Users are also able to see an estimate of gas consumption, miles traveled, and speed of the vehicle.
Challenges We ran into
Tagait offers a wide range of vehicles. Some of them are vintage vehicles and therefore do not possess an OBD2 port. A device was built out of a raspberry pi zero that works with old and new vehicles.
Accomplishments that We're proud of
The system can be used anywhere in the world.
What I learned
How to work with TCP connections.
What's next for Tagait Tracker
Continue to improve the system.
