Inspiration
Corporate America has not done enough as an industry to support kids from underprivileged backgrounds that have tried to crack it in big tech, fields full of legacy, prestige and nepotism like investment banking and private equity. This is our little contribution to helping bridge that gap. For college students, by college students.
What it does
It's an extension that gives you tips on how you could make your interview responses that much better. It's perfect for practice over zoom where you can simulate the environment of an interview while also glancing over to see what you need to improve on.
How we built it
Chrome extension manifest v3 for the frontend, we used Flask for the backend to interface with the Gemini API.
Challenges we ran into
Getting the data input from the mics, using WebHooks, and building an extension as opposed to a web app was a novel challenge for the entire team, as we haven't had any experience implementing those technologies.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite the lack of experience implementing with the stack, our team was still able to come out with a MVP within the 24 hours, so we're very proud of that.
What we learned
We learned all these technologies listed above, but most importantly what we could accomplish in 24 hours if we put our minds to it.
What's next for TalkFish
I think we'll use this to help each other prepare for interviews and share it with friends who will share it with other people as well. If it catches on it could well be a helpful tool widely used by UNC students.
