Inspiration 💡

We were driven by the idea of sustainability and helping people reduce their carbon footprints.

What it does 🤔

Terreform is a website that has two different functions: calculating the carbon emissions of consuming certain types of food (like beef, chicken, etc) and informing you of the nutritional information of various. We take your user input and run it through our data to quickly show you your carbon footprint/the nutritional facts. Every user signs into the website with a unique username.

How we built it 🤓

We used Python and html for the web building, PropelAuth for user authentification, pandas for data scraping for the carbon footprint calculator, and PythonAnywhere to host the website.

Challenges we ran into 😓

We had a very hard time connecting our code to PropelAuth and our domain name. In order to use the domain name, we needed to find some place to host the website. We decided on GitHub pages, but also struggled with being able to actually publish something. So then we switched to PythonAnywhere.

Accomplishments that we're proud of 💪

Figuring out PropelAuth! Figuring out how to host the website! Cute design! Integrating front-end and back-end!

What we learned 🧠

We learned how to use PropelAuth, how to connect a domain name to a server, how to use Pandas. We also learned what goes into developing front/back end applications, such as needing to pass variables through and transfer data between different pages.

What's next for Terreform? 🌱

We'd like to continue to add pages to our website that use AI to offer personalized guidance on how to lower your carbon footprint. Additionally, we planned to create a machine learning model that would predict the longterm environmental impact if users chose to make more eco-friendly decisions but did not have time.
