The Ascent
‘The Ascent’ is a cold war themed horror-thriller game centered around the theme of “Lockdown”. We at Pandit Code were inspired by games like ‘Granny’ and ‘Gmod’ to create a surreal landscape for our players. In the world of ‘The Ascent’, players will experience liminal spaces from games like Gmod and panic from the SCP foundation. ‘The Ascent’ is based on a lockdown imposed on the People’s Institute of Biology (PIB) in 1980’s Donetsk, present day Ukraine. In this horror game, the protagonist must give all they’ve got to escape the pathogen-stricken laboratory. Intricate mathematical puzzles have been set up which the protagonist must finish to proceed to the next level. There are, however, clues which the player can use to their advantage to solve the puzzles and find the keys. But if the player doesn’t pay attention initially, then they may not make it out alive. Pandit Code made this eerie world using Unity with assets imported from the Unity Asset Store. We ran into some challenges during the production of this game. Designing and formatting everything from the levels, rooms and finding assets were hurdles in our production process. Since we had no prior experience in making horror games, we were initially confused about the endgame and objectives of the game. Time was also not our ally either, as we had to race against the clock to finish a game Pandit Code would be satisfied with. We are immensely proud about: Working as a team to tackle hurdles and come up with innovative and creative solutions. Creating multiple levels and a proper backstory for this game in less than 24 hours. Reduce the x axis scale. Creating intricate mathematical puzzles to confuse the player in the already spooky world. Selecting and importing wonderful assets for production. What we learnt: Reducing the x axis scale. Write text with specific fonts on walls that we generated. How to be more efficient using Unity. Create our own custom lighting to add to the ambience. ‘The Ascent’ is the first of (hopefully) many of Pandit Code’s projects. We have been passionately working on this project for the past day and are looking forward to incorporating more complex assets into our creation. In the future, we hope to be more well-versed in the workings of Unity to create more complicated games. The future for Pandit Code and ‘The Ascent’ is bright. We hope you’ll join us on our journey. Happy surviving, everyone. Stay frosty.
