Inspiration
In a fast-paced world, we often forget how precious time truly is. We wanted to build something that makes users pause and reflect—something beautiful, meaningful, and interactive. That’s how "The Time Keeper" was born: a project that combines global time awareness with thought-provoking quotes that highlight the value of time as life’s greatest asset.
What it does
Displays dynamic digital and analog clocks for multiple time zones.
Rotates famous quotes about time every 15 seconds with animations.
Allows users to add a new time zone via an input form, instantly showing both digital and analog clocks for that location.
Includes background animations like ticking clocks, flowing sand, or shifting gradients that symbolize the passing of time.
Mobile-responsive and accessible UI built using HTML5, TailwindCSS, Bootstrap, and Vanilla JS/TypeScript.
How we built it
Frontend: HTML5 for structure, TailwindCSS and Bootstrap 5 for responsive, elegant design.
Logic: Vanilla JavaScript / TypeScript to handle:
Live clock updates
Time zone calculations using Intl.DateTimeFormat
Analog clock hand rotations
Countdown timers for quote cycling
UI Enhancements: CSS animations for transitions and SVG-based background effects to give a polished look.
Modular and separated code files for better structure and maintenance.
Challenges we ran into
Accurate time zone handling for different regions with daylight saving adjustments.
Animating analog clock hands in sync with real-world time for each zone.
Creating a beautiful UI under time constraints.
Ensuring background animations didn’t distract from the primary content or reduce performance on low-end devices.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a fully responsive and feature-rich application in just 2 hours.
Delivered a clean and visually appealing UX using TailwindCSS + Bootstrap hybrid.
Integrated both digital and analog clocks with real-time updates.
Designed a system that’s scalable (can add more zones or features with minimal code changes).
What we learned
Deep understanding of time zone APIs and browser locale formatting.
Enhanced skills in combining design frameworks (Tailwind + Bootstrap) for fast UI development.
Importance of user experience even for a simple concept.
Gained experience in building meaningful projects around abstract concepts like time.
What's next for The Time Keeper
Add notification reminders or scheduled alerts based on user-defined times.
Add theme toggle: day/night mode based on user’s system or time zone.
Add quote submissions and voting by users to make it community-driven.
Convert it into a mobile app or PWA (Progressive Web App).
Integrate Pomodoro timers and focus sessions to turn it into a productivity suite.
