Inspiration
Deciding what to eat every day can be surprisingly stressful, and that stress often leads to unhealthy choices. We wanted to create something that makes healthy eating easier and more consistent — helping people take better care of their well-being through simple daily meal planning.
What it does
theMEAL helps users plan their daily meals by providing quick, healthy meal recommendations. It removes the stress of deciding what to eat and encourages better eating habits with just a few clicks.
How we built it
We used Next.js as our framework, along with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We also integrated Tailwind CSS for styling, and we’re working with a meal generation API to deliver custom results.
Challenges we ran into
Coming up with a clear idea that balanced usefulness and simplicity was tough. Designing an intuitive UI/UX in a short time was another big challenge. We also faced technical issues like syncing shared state between pages and handling unexpected bugs under time pressure.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of how well we worked together as a team — everyone brought unique strengths, and the collaboration flowed smoothly. We took an idea from scratch and turned it into a working app within 24 hours. Despite challenges, we delivered something clean, functional, and helpful.
What we learned
We learned the importance of version control and backing up our work — especially after accidentally wiping the project! We also gained experience in building under time pressure, improving our teamwork, and making quick design and technical decisions.
What's next for theMEAL
We’re exploring ways to expand theMEAL with features like calorie tracking, and weekly planning. There’s a lot of potential to turn it into a full health-focused meal planner — we’re excited to see where it can go from here.
