Inspiration

Our inspiration comes from our own stories and experiences. Back in January, Aly Flateau was going through a rough time. Her mom was a pediatric healthcare provider, so she had access to many resources. But, even with all those resources, her family couldn't find anyone for months. Melisa Punar has a similar story. Her family found a therapist, but she was far away, very expensive, and didn't specialize in what she needed. Ufedo Abdullahi has a story that relates to another feature of this app. She moved from Nigeria in her junior year of high school. She lacked awareness of her different options and the ability to access them. When she desired a therapist, the only ones she could find were far away and far too expensive. Yes, there are sites like Therapy4U, but we are different because we have felt the struggle. We prioritize you, not revenue. Through all our struggles, we realized how hard it was to find a therapist. That's why we created Therapy4U. We want everyone to be able to find and get the health they need, at their price range with what they need.

What it does

Therapy4U has two main functions. The first function is finding a therapist. After filling out your settings and preferences, our program searches for therapists that match. Some of these settings include insurance options, price ranges, and traveling distance. The second function of our program utilizes the abilities of AI. Since some immigrants don't speak the language, or, the language they speak isn't typically offered. The AI translates the language into your own language so you can access this better. We also have recourses linked as well as information that they may need to start strong in their new life.

How we built it

We used Sites.Google.Com, html, and ChatGPT.

Challenges we ran into

Our first struggle was Aly's computer. Her wifi wouldn't work and this took 30 minutes to finally get it to work. Melisa and Ufedo began working on starting the project. With this came yet another problem. Neither Aly, Melisa, nor Ufedo had ever coded before or used Bubble.io. After watching 30 minutes worth of YouTube, we still didn't understand how to use it. Eager to use our time well and effectively, we decided to use Google Sites. Ufedo drew our logo while Aly worked on the video and information, and Melisa worked on the coding. We all changed places to make sure each other's work was accurate and concise.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our site is very beautiful, and we worked very hard on it! The video was super fun to make and it was so fun to have this opportunity.

What we learned

Together as a group, we learned how to overcome challenges together and combine our ideas to make the best project possible. No one knew how to code or use Bubble.io, but as a team, we figured this out together. We also learned the importance of determination. Our challenges were tough and we didn't know where to continue at points. But, we encouraged each other and came up with solutions together. Melisa and Aly knew each other before Hackathon, but they met Ufedo for the first time ever today. As a group, we became closer and learned about each other and ourselves. We established bonds that we could never have made if we hadn't struggled. This taught us that friendships grow with challenges because they allow us to communicate and learn from each other. So in short, we not only learned how to code, but we learned life lessons about problem-solving, friendship, and teamwork.

What's next for Therapy4U

Therapy4U's future remains undecided. Our idea blossomed and took form today, and we thoroughly enjoyed designing and creating it. Although, we are all full-time high school students, so balancing this along with our extracurriculars and school may not be possible. We enjoyed working with each other and finding solutions to help others, so this project is not over. While right now may not be the time to work and develop this full-time, it's going to be continued. Whether that be tomorrow or in a few years, we want to continue to help people access what they need.
