Inspiration
During our initial brainstorming session, we were very drawn to the idea of completing a project that had a historical and artistic connection entwined. However, we also wanted to create an XR game that was fun to play. Drawing inspiration from some of our friends' immense love of Clash Royale, and our appreciation for the art and game mechanics of Hearthstone, we decided to take our own spin on these titles with an XR flair.
What it does
Put succinctly: Divine Draw is a Greek mythology themed card-slinging tower defense game!
Players are tasked with guarding the great altar of the gods' Pantheon. Creatures such as werewolves, harpies, and the infamous Cerberus attempt to storm the temple, and they must defend the central altar at all cost by leveraging the powers of the gods and calling upon fantastical creatures.
How we built it
This project was built with the Unity game engine for the Meta Quest 3. The most notable package used is UltimateXR for custom hand posing and the character rig. We used Meshy AI to generate a vast majority of our assets creature assets, the altar, the statue at the back of the pantheon and more. We used Gemini to generate different parts of the card artwork before manually editing the images together, and Claude was used for the initial generation of some of the scripts for a more time efficient workflow.
Challenges we ran into
Time, time time! One of the greatest challenges of hackathons is not taking on more than what you can reasonably complete in the allotted timeframe. We spent a lot of time on custom models and animation states that we struggled to find the time to fully implement. Our scene looks beautiful though!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The scene looks amazing, and thematically cohesive especially for a hackathon setting. We are also really proud of the overall premise of the game and our early gameplay prototype.
What we learned
We could have spent slightly less time on asset creation to allow for more game testing and bug fixes.
What's next for TheZoU
More card features and more fun!
