Inspiration

The idea for Thirst Taps sparked during this hackathon as we struggled to find water fountains due to being in an unfamiliar building, leading us to recognize the widespread issue of locating amenities in new or large buildings.

What it does

Thirst Taps is a web app that helps users efficiently find amenities within a building or campus. It offers real-time information on the location and availability of facilities such as lecture rooms, restrooms, water fountains, and food outlets.

How we built it

We built Thirst Taps by integrating MappedIn for comprehensive mapping capabilities. The development involved using a range of programming languages including TypeScript, Next.js, React.js, with the integration of JavaScript Web Speech API, Google Map's API, and Google's Vertex AI for natural language processing, allowing us to create a robust and versatile platform.

Challenges we ran into

We faced technical challenges integrating Mappedin's indoor mapping into our web app, but with hard work and teamwork, we made it happen, improving our app's features.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of creating a platform that's easy for everyone to use and successfully integrating Mappedin to provide live, reliable indoor maps for our users.

What we learned

Through this project, we gained a deeper understanding of the technical complexities of real-time mapping. Working on Thirst Taps also taught us the significance of user-centric development and the need for adaptability in technology to meet real-world challenges.

What's next for Thirst Taps

We're focusing on providing real-time information on amenities, expanding to more locations, and encouraging community feedback for continual improvement.
