Inspiration
Inspired by bringing back the feeling of thrifting and the joy of finding those perfect items, JRLD created Thread-Ex to simplify and "romanticize" the online shopping experience. Based on apps like Depop and Facebook Marketplace we aimed to improve aspects that these two brands fall short on such as community and maintaining the face-to-face aspect of shopping.
What it does
Thread-Ex simplifies the browsing experience by using an endless scroll mechanic and swipe feature to quick save items. After the user enters their location or a specific location the app uses an integrated map to display thrift stores, flea markets and related events nearby. To further bring back the face-to-face aspect of shopping, the app allows the user to setup an exchange meet at a location nearby or through shipping if the user desires.
How we built it
The prototype was made solely through Figma and its integrated plugins such as Pexels, Unsplash, and Iconify. ChatGPT was used for fake address generation.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we ran into were time management, actualization of ideas, and prototyping the wireframes as most members of our group were not too experienced with prototyping. Two members of our group were also not able to collaborate due to outside obstacles therefore the workload was divided very unevenly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Finishing the project! Additionally, capturing the original idea and being able to integrate it into our product.
What we learned
Not all ideas are feasible and trying to include what everyone wants can hurt the development and overall quality of the project in the long run.
What's next for Thread-Ex
Refining the prototype, adding additional screens for more user options, applying a consistent aesthetic theme to the whole product.
