Inspiration

Our journey with Tindora began as college students striving to simplify meal planning and combat food waste. Motivated to create a tech-driven solution, we envisioned a platform that seamlessly recommends meals based on available groceries, streamlining the entire culinary process.

What it does

Tindora revolutionizes meal planning by recommending dishes tailored to users' available groceries, whether input manually or through recipes. Additionally, it intelligently manages ingredient expiration dates, ensuring optimal freshness. With curated meal suggestions and grocery lists, Tindora simplifies planning, reduces waste, and elevates the cooking experience.

How we built it

Employing the robust MERN (MongoDB, Express, React, Node) stack, we fused innovative technologies to bring Tindora to life. Leveraging Google's Gemini Pro for OCR capabilities, we seamlessly parse grocery receipts and utilize advanced text models to craft personalized meal recommendations and grocery lists, accommodating user preferences with precision.

Challenges we ran into

Initially focused on repurposing leftover ingredients, mentor feedback led us to expand Tindora's scope to include meal recommendations aligned with users' dietary needs and culinary preferences. This pivot presented challenges in feature integration and usability, which we overcame through iterative development and collaboration.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We take pride in delivering a functional prototype of Tindora within the hackathon's constraints. Our achievement extends to the creation of an intuitive user interface that fosters engagement and enhances the overall experience. Successfully implementing both back-end and front-end components, including robust database management and interactive design, marks a significant milestone for our team.

What we learned

Our journey with Tindora enriched our understanding of API integration, machine learning deployment, and user-centric design principles. Delving into the intricacies of meal planning underscored the importance of addressing food waste in contemporary society, inspiring our commitment to sustainable culinary practices.

What's next for Tindora

Looking ahead, we aim to refine Tindora's recommendation algorithm to deliver even more personalized meal suggestions. Our roadmap includes enriching the platform with features such as meal customization, nutritional insights, and seamless integration with smart kitchen appliances, further enhancing the cooking journey for our users.
