Inspiration

When going out or having fun with friends, alcohol is often involved. In this case, most of the times, people do not track how much alcohol they've consumed. Therefore, TipsyTracker comes into play, allowing users to track how much they've drunk all while inspiring the users to stay safe. There is an app, where users can log how many drinks they've had with their friends, but TipsyTracker differs from this in the sense that we ensure and strive to make sure that users are having fun with their friends all while being safe at the same time!

What it does

A friend-sharing notification system that allows users to make an account, add their friends, create and join events, and most importantly, track their alcohol consumption for an event to ensure safe drinking habits for themself and their friends!

How we built it

Built using React Native, making it compatible across iOS and Android devices.

Challenges we ran into

Creating an idea to combat the possible issue of users getting too drunk to continue to log how many drinks they've had.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • An interactive map setting to see the location and BAC of all the user's friends
  • Having alerts and notifications pop up to alert you if you're friend hasn't moved for a long period of time and to check-in with you as the user to make sure you're okay
  • Being able to manage and add events and effectively log drinks for a given event

What we learned

  • A full-stack application development process starting from brainstorming a work flow, making mock-ups of our application, implementing API requests, and learning how to prioritize user needs without losing functionality

What's next for TipsyTracker

  • The user will soon have the ability to see their drinking habits over time
  • If everyone in the "party" has consumed too much, an alert will go off suggesting they call an Uber to get home safe
  • A notification will appear when the user has reached an unusually high number of drinks in a short period of time
  • Each event will have its own customizable group playlist that lets all the event users add to
  • A photo album that allows users to take pictures at every event, so they can look back and remember the fun times they had (while being safe)
