Inspiration
Our inspiration came from one of our friends in the group.
What it does
The purpose of A Musical Journey is to help musicians be immersed in their playing experience and to translate their feelings through the notes they play. The sounds they listen to can set up the mood and give them the experience of being at that place. When entering the website, the user will be presented with a button to start the immersion. From there, the user can select two options of scales, minor or major (depends on the piece the user is playing). Finally, the user can scroll through the slideshow and can choose which place they would like to be in; it will take them to a video with the sounds being played in the background. A Musical Journey is not only created for musicians but others who wish to sit and relax to these noises.
How we built it
Programming: We created this website using HTML, CSS, and Javascript. As a group, we were able to collaborate and share our code via GitKraken (a Git GUI) and Discord; we communicated through the whole thing to easily split up tasks and combine it all together. The code itself was written in VSC where we used the extension Live Server to locally open up the HTML file and visually see what our website looks like.
Art: We created a very simple website since it is more focused on giving the user experience over how it looks. Creating a much more complicated design will take away from that, so we minimized scrolling, and we put it all onto one page to make it user-friendly.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we ran into were creating the design, and adding in the videos into the website. This was the first time some of our group members have worked with HTML and CSS. It was a bit difficult to learn it while coding it as the time restraint was only one day long. Designing the website was slightly hard as we weren't sure what would look pleasing to the eyes but simple too. Another challenge was embedding the videos in (we tried using an API, but that didn't work out). It was stressful because we ran into errors even when we didn't change the code.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
An accomplishment that we're proud of is that the website is functioning and does its expected functions. This is our first website that we created together! We are proud of the work we have created and hope to continue improving it in the future.
What we learned
A Musical Journey has shown us that with good collaboration and time management skills, we can create something amazing. During this hackathon, my group members and I took the time to learn HTML, CSS and how to use GitKraken while working on the project. It was a good experience for us as we were able to expand our knowledge on these programming languages and helped us learn how to properly use Github for future collaborations.
What's next for TOHacks Website
We hope to improve it by making it run smoother or we can change the design to look more aesthetically pleasing. Also we will try to put it on an actual website as it is being ran in our local host.
