Inspiration
I wanted to create an eco-friendly app to help offset growing carbon emissions. By creating an app to incentive the replanting of lost plants and trees, the goal is for the user to be motivated by seeing just how much carbon emissions they're preventing!
What it does
The app allows users to upload a photo and the location of their plant or tree. It will then update them on how much CO2 was absorbed. The user can keep tabs on all their plants as time passes and even create groups to compete against friends.
How we built it
The front end was built with React and user authentication and storage is all handled by Firebase.
Challenges we ran into
This was my first time using Firebase so it took some YouTube tutorials to configure my project with it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a navigational webpage with user login.
What we learned
How to use FireBase with React.
What's next for Top Planter
Use image regontion and a plant database API call to get plant specific information about the rate of which CO2 is absorbed by that type of plant.
