Inspiration
The random wikipedia page button is the greatest feature ever added to a website, so we absolutely needed to use it in a game somehow.
What it does
Imagine Top Trumps but using wikipedia page buttons, and also we swapped around how Top Trumps works to be choosing a card instead of choosing a category.
How we built it
First, we hack. Then, we twoah.
Challenges we ran into
The wikipedia API is a wild beast that you cannot tame. Even though some pages have images on them, we couldn't get the URL for those images, and so we decided instead to then pass the title of the article into a stock image API. This makes some very funny combinations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Not only did we make a game that is playable, we also got over 6 hours of sleep.
What we learned
It's important to actually think about what you're doing before you start programming.
What's next for Topedia
An online VS mode would be nice to have.
