Totka is a system that makes holistic and natural healing phytomedicine rooted in southeastern traditions accessible to contemporary times.

The Story and Process

We designed and built a user experience from the initial point of purchase and research to the tangible products furthering into the user interface of an app. Our inspiration is rooted in fundamental features of a greenhouse, providing heat, water, and minerals to tender plants. Saturating the natural process to aid growth and protection, Totka encapsulates natural extracted and ayurvedic home remedies from plants and herbs worldwide and makes it possible for people outside of origin to benefit from these therapeutic properties. The etymology of 'Totka' lies in Sanskrit and stands for an esoteric cure of a disease.

The process began with rich design thinking towards approaching the theme of Greenhouse and paving the way to the division of responsibilities to optimize efficiency. After the initial sketches and research, we started creating the Brand Identity simultaneous to rendering the machine and capsules. Finally, developed the website and app's user interface. Our goal was to place the consumer in complete transparency of phytomedicine and user-product interaction.

Learnings, Accomplishments and Challenges

We learned about the large market available for such remedies and the lack of modern, accessible technology in the area of Ayurveda. Collaborating to produce high-fidelity prototypes in less than 24 hours was challenging and exciting. However, it was demanding to take an approximately two weeks long design process to execute in a short time. But most of all was finding a way to create something that we were proud of without code in a hackathon where most participants were proficient in coding.

What's next for Totka

Totka is now looking to move into physical prototyping and developing the app from a working prototype to a universally available application.

As we move forward, we would also step back and strengthen research and get feedback from professionals in the different disciplines Totka fits within. In the long run, Totka would have more variations of capsuled remedies and a more extensive product range.
