Inspiration
Morning commute for university is tedious - switching between the train app, weather app and the news app. Why not make something that has all the information at a single glance? And so TrackCheck was born
What it does
A website that is easy and simple to use, users can place in their preferences for where to go. This then loads up the live train schedule, daily weather and all news relevant to train commute to alert users in advance.
How we built it
Firstly using a figma framework to map our design ideas and ideals around the project, we then sought out to use html + css + javascript code to setup the website functionality. Finally, our python code enables the website to also generate live weather view.
Challenges we ran into
Had issues with making buttons work for html + css code as by pressing on the selectors of stations, the dropdown menu would be on the left side of the toggle button rather than directly beneath it. In addition, our whole team felt very disadvantaged due to our lack of technical skills. We ran into multiple problems for using git and github at the first few hours of our project. When programming the python side of things, we quickly realised we didn't know a lot of things like integrating API's from open sources like weather, live train tracking and news into our website.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to successfully replicate our ideal figma design of our project using html and css and javascript code to an extent and made the landing page relatively functional.
What we learned
We learned a lot about ourselves in this project - that we all lacked technical skills and will make sure to be upskilled before the next hackathon.
What's next for Track Check
To make significant to the landing page as well as further develop our user-personalised GUI for a better functionality of our project. In addition, we'll be adding new features as we progress like databases for user logins and the possibility of even recreating the website experience on an easily accessible mobile app. Apps will be ideal as commuters more often use their mobile devices and apps enable gps tracking for weather and recommended train routes, etc.
