Inspiration

Formula 1 racing and previous experience with races at COTA and being in that user perspective as a spectator in the stands and camping in the greens.

What it does

Its two parts, first the live stream page allows you to see either specific turns camera, general live stream, or by clicking on a specific racer you can access a POV of the driver. There is also a simple collection of info about each driver including team, name, and country of origin. Once you find a driver you like you can click the driver view button which brings you back to a POV view. Then the main attraction would be the Track Vision on the top bar. The idea is you would be able to scan the racetrack and be able to interrupt information through an augmented reality program. This give you a picture of the driver, name, place, and speed during that current moment.

How we built it

8thwall was the program used to develop the augmented reality system and wix webpage builder and its sister company velo allowed us to get down in the nitty gritty of the code and create complex processes for the website. We took some bits and pieces off the community page and Frankensteind different functions and codes together to create a well made (in 24 hours) webpage.

Challenges we ran into

Our major issue was getting into an idea, after we got our idea after working on it for a while we then realized that behind a paid service F1 already supplied a streaming service, so we thought bigger and more hackathon like and decided to develop a framework for an augmented reality mockup.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to get together randomly as a team of 2 novice coders and 1 previous hackathonie and become a thriving team. We were able to complete the project within the time limit, while still getting sleep ( 4 hours) and being able to work off each others ideas and differing opinions. We had disagreements and conflicts but in the end that made our product better.

What we learned

We learned some coding skills through the java based velo app and simple UI design in order to make interacting with the website as seamless as possible. Learned a lot about Augmented reality and services surrounding that world. Since two of us are new to hackathons its been an amazing learning experience about building a team, creating a project and turning it in on time over the course of a tight 24 hour period.

What's next for Track Vision

Well the product can be developed into a more middle class option for F1 fans, more as an in person enhancement app. Allowing fans to be able to get more information from both the stream but a live AG view from the phone which will allow you the racers that are coming up. This program could be implemented with a tablet and used at these events, which would make fans more happy and also increase sales of extra products.
