Inspiration

Exploring the National Collision Database of Canada we found out there were still a lot of injuries, both fatal and non-fatal that occurs all over Canada. Over 290,000 people were injured in 2017 from collisions. Out of which 5000 were fatal. These are deaths that could be avoided mostly by educating the drivers of the risks better.

What it does

Our solution is to develop a dashboard/ infographic to better relate to the drivers the major attributes that lead to fatal/ non-fatal injuries from collisions. The Application in progress, will alert the drivers as they approach a dangerous intersection.

How we built it

Used R, Python to Analyze data Tableau - to present the data

Challenges we ran into

Imputing the data in a meaningful way was challenging. As we chose to randomly chose samples based on existing proportions.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Imputation of the data with minimal loss to the data and drawing conclusions from it.

What we learned

Identified, which days accidents are most likely, what times, what configurations of road can be considered risky and so on. A lot of useful data that can be used for the mobile application.

What's next for Traffic Collision Data Analysis

Build an app for Toronto and then other cities to update drivers and alert them when they approach a dangerous intersection/ location that has been identified as dangerous from the data.
