Inspiration
Trek Sathi was inspired by the very real challenges that trekkers face in Nepal: safety for solo travelers, limited emergency resources, and meaningful connections among adventurers. Incidents involving missing trekkers, difficult search-and-rescue operations, and the mandate to ban solo trekking motivated us to create a solution that prioritizes safety, connectivity, and a rich trekking experience.
What it does Trek Sathi is a trekking companion app that lets users: • Improve safety by sharing location in real-time and sending SOS SMSes with GPS coordinates. • Create groups so solo travelers can connect and go on treks together. • Share local contacts for easy access to guides and emergency services.
- Allow the user to create trek journals with photos and notes at certain locations.
- Let users interact socially by commenting and sharing photos in them.
How we built it
We used:
- Frontend: React with Vite to build a responsive, fast Progressive Web App (PWA).
- llm Integration: Gemini is integrated to provide hands on information about the trek details.
- Real Time Features: Real time location sharing and web based chat of near by trekkers.
- Design: NativeWind for styling and seamless UI.
Challenges we ran into
- Integrating Real-Time Features: It was tough to implement real time location sharing with no back end.
- User Privacy: Safety for trekkers v/s privacy was a big trade of in feature design.
Offline Availability: Features must be enabled such that even with very poor connectivity in remote areas, it does not affect the functionality.
Local Adaptation: Gathering of relevant local information regarding emergency contact details and culturally sensitive information.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
