Inspiration
Globalization and the ever-growing use of social media has made the world seemingly smaller, allowing us to travel and see the world more often. This app is designed to share the places you've been with your friends while also building a bucket list of your own. A map shows all of the places you want to go, and there is the ability to generate a random trip!
What it does
The final product is currently a mock up of what could have been. The UI/UX is functional, but the Google Maps integration and database integration were not accomplished.
How we built it
React Framework and Google Maps API
Challenges we ran into
On the Google Maps side, there were challenges making a third party implementation of the library to work. We figured out how to have multiple pins in the background, but we weren't able to go beyond that. On the UI/UX side of things, this was our first time really getting extensive use out of NodeJS and React, and it was a process trying to figure out how everything works. Also, when we made the pages, we didn't realize until later that we never tried to connect the pages together. But we managed to pull through and make it work.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the UI/UX and the fact that we actually got a map to show up on our website.
What we learned
A LOT
To break it down, we learned about how the Google Maps API works, what constants and containers are in regards to variables, different techniques in organizing and coding a mock website using ReactJS and NodeJS, and a whole slew of new coding practices to use.
What's next for TripBucket
In the future, we hope to go beyond being a mockup and have a fully functional app.
