Inspiration
I'm myself a religious blood donor and back in my home country I used to donate blood regularly. In Canada, I found some lack of awareness and motivation among people regarding blood donation, despite efforts form the Government and Blood Services Canada. I discussed it with my friends and we found a gap in the healt services. Thus, we came up with the idea of TrustBlu.
What it does
TrustBlu is basically as blockchain platform which is revolutionizing blood donation by incentivising people using NFTs for their social service, celebrate and build a reputation and increase social credit within the community.
How we built it
We chose ICP as our blockchain for its strong North American presence, low cost, and excellent scalability. Utilizing TIP-721 tokens, ICP's NFT standard, we implemented smart contracts in Motoko. Our frontend is built with ReactJS and styled using Material UI. For authentication and data storage, we are integrating Firebase. Additionally, we are considering off-chain storage solutions like IPFS or Filecoin, and traditional databases like MongoDB, with AWS as our cloud provider.
Challenges we ran into
We have a challenge in connecting the front end with ICP as we have used motoko for our smart contrat TIP-721 and it is not minting NFT when the function is called. Also, have top fix authetication issues using firebase with ICP.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Before the hackathon, this idea was just a concept. In just two days and two nights, our team brought it to life. Despite not having an MVP yet and encountering some integration challenges, I'm thrilled with our team's incredible effort and the strong proof of concept we've developed.
What we learned
First of all, we learned a lot about the ICP SDK and Motoko, as it was our team's first time using Motoko. This experience taught us the importance of preparation and our immense potential to learn and implement new technologies. We also gained valuable insights into the laws and regulations governing health services in Canada and identified areas for improvement. Additionally, we discovered how large corporations contribute to society through numerous non-profit projects. Overall, participating in BlockHack involved great brainstorming and coding, making it an incredibly enriching experience.
What's next for TrustBlu- Beyond Gratitude
After the hackathon, we plan to develop our MVP within a few weeks and seek collaborations, particularly with ICP. Our next step will be to pitch our concept to Blood Services Canada or other potential partners for initial funding and scaling. Once fully implemented, we aim to expand the platform to include stem cell, hair, and organ donations, ensuring compliance with all regulations and ethical standards.
