Inspiration

Efficient, contactless, and personal. We've entered the new normal where social distancing is a must. But how do we keep in-person experiences such as trying/buying new clothes? Try & Buy makes trying on clothes easier than ever and allows customers to reserve a dressing room that already has all their pre chosen outfits/accessories locked up and only accessible by their special QR generated code! We wanted to make transactions as germ-free as possible, allowing stores to have a better handle on their business, and even reducing theft/shoplifting, while maintaining a strong sales experience with seamless interactions.

What it does

Try & Buy is powered by NCR's Selling Engine that allows seamless transactions between customers and stores. The app stores the user's payment methods and allows the user to choose whichever clothes/outfits they please. The UI is based off of the template that NCR provides from their elegant and user-friendly Design System.

Sales representatives are available through live chat to help assist the customers if necessary and are in charge of getting the reserved dressing room for the customer cleaned and ready with all the clothes they decide to try on. This limits the amount of time a customer is spent walking around the store, touching many different clothing and risking increased COVID transmission, while maintaining the personal experience of assistance and utilizing the sales representative's knowledge. Customers can simply walk in at their reservation time to their reserved dressing room which is unlocked by a special QR generated code. They can try on their clothes/outfits as normal and simply leave with what they want, without having to interact with any sales representative - a completely contactless transaction! Afterwards, sales representatives cleans and checks the room to see what was left and compare to the initial list of items they wanted to try and charge accordingly, directly through the app thanks to NCR technology.

No longer do you have to wait in line to pay or to try on new clothes, or be bothered by a sales representative when you just want to be alone. And no more arriving to a store and realizing that they're out of stock, even though their website said they aren't! As for the store, sales representatives no longer have to worry about customers contaminating all the clothes in the store, or theft in the dressing room area. It's all contained within a secure dressing room area. A win-win with Try & Buy.

How we built it

SwiftUI, NCR API, NCR Design System.

Challenges we ran into

XCode required us to all update, which took around 5 hours, since we had to update our OS. We were also getting used to Swift (none of us used) and also ran into several difficult bugs. The API was also very new to us, but we visited the help desk plenty of times :)

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We learned a lot in a short period of time. We also took advantage of the time zone difference and were very efficient of handing off work to one another. We also love how our final project looks and are excited to do even more with it.

What we learned

New language, new platforms, new APIs.

What's next for Try & Buy

We really want to explore further into NCR's APIs. There were so many to choose from and they are very comprehensive. We hope to continue implementing different features and integrating the API further.
