Inspiration
With none of us being particularly financially savvy, we wanted to dip our toes into learning about and creating a finance related app
What it does
TuberTrader allows users to sign into a web app and buy and sell youtubers like stocks. It creates a risk free and fun atmosphere to simulate the real world stock market
How we built it
Using Vue 3 and Bootstrap for the frontend and Firebase to manage the backend, we wanted to advantage of cool frameworks and services to help us build faster
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge we ran into was accessing and working with the YouTube API. Limitations with the free tiers of the services we were using also came into play as well as our inexperience with backend logic.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
In the end, we are still proud that we were able to create a widget the reflects the main idea of what we set out to do. We were able to take advantage of Firebase for managing user auth as well as storing data, were able to use the convivences that come with Vue 3 and Bootstrap
What we learned
We learned that using APIs can be quite challenging especially when you are using them for the first time. Creating backend logic can also be confusing if not done properly
What's next for TuberTrader
In the future we want to implement the YouTube API properly and be able to also implement a realistic bidding and asking system for the stocks
