Inspiration

"Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development". The whole world set it as one of the goals for sustainable development 9 years ago, and truly, peace is what the world needs right now. Nobody benefits from war, violence, and hatred. If societies want to survive, we have to set aside our differences and reach out a hand to one another. We must demolish the barriers that humanity once proudly erected and build bridges of understanding and empathy if we are to achieve social sustainability. Now, we have the technology that can strengthen that peace or destroy it. It's all in our hands to decide. That's why this app exists.

What it does

Our app is able to process text when the user highlights it and can translate the text into formal meaning, slang term, or provide general context of it. There is also a way to get a description about a certain part of a country's culture so that users can have more to relate to when talking to someone from that country.

How we built it

We used javascript, html and css for the frontend, and used flask for the backend to communicate with Open AI's API.

Challenges we ran into

It was difficult trying to figure out how chrome extensions worked, and highlighting text. It was also difficult trying to communicate with Open AI's API.
