Inspiration
We log on twice a day everyday to a live quiz show on your phones call HQ Trivia for a chance to split a prize of $2000! We saw live mobile games as an opportunity for TV networks to engage their users.
What it does
Our web app allows producers to choose specific times accurate to the second for prediction questions about their live show to be pushed to users' phones. Users watching the show can play along on their phones, competing with other viewers of the show, have 10 seconds to answer the multiple choice question before it is revealed on the show. The winner each week receives a prize!
How we built it
We built the producer webapp in javascript and html. We built the backend using Firebase. We built the iOS app using Swift.
Challenges we ran into
Access control for questions - making sure that users can only see the questions at the exact scheduled time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting all the separate working pieces integrated and working together nicely.
What we learned
Authentication using Google accounts and change streams in Firebase.
What's next for TV Now
This was a proof of concept application for The Bachelor. We could create custom applications for any show that airs on cable. We can take this concept and sell it to TV networks looking to increase viewership and ad revenues.
