Inspiration
Our team was inspired by the challenges of making connections in university, specifically in first year. With two first years on the team, it was clear that making friends and building a social life in the beginning was tough. One thing that helped this issue was club events. Creating an app that facilitates finding events for UBC students can be one step toward more social engagement in the UBC community. In addition, some members did not want to participate in campus activities alone.
What it does
When users first open the app, they are shown a login or sign-up page. Users can verify they are UBC students using their school email and can select their interests, such as crafts, gaming, or sports. These interests indicate to other users what users can do together and filter out events by categories. All users have a profile with their name, friends, interests, a bio with information on their year and major, and a feed of past events they have attended. On the home page, users can search for an event, explore events by category, and view popular events. Students can create events by inputting their event name, start and end times, location, a description, visibility, capacity, and a category. Events are not required to be on campus, but it may be easier to find UBC students elsewhere. There is a notification and map page as well.
