Inspiration: As students, we see many things happen on campus. Whether it is something positive or negative, there are moments you wish you could share with others. We plan to create a website in which students from UCR are able to grow together by sharing their own experiences. We hope to see the students have community in our school along with knowing when to avoid areas when someone posts a negative post.

What it does: We have a map that allows users to add their own markers with title, description, and the type of event (positive or negative). With more time we hope that we are able to add full paths to show the user what path to take. We also hope to be able to have more control of maps throughout the whole website.

How we built it: We began by making our ventures into html. We were able to create a html file to hold all of our information. After this we began adding google maps implementation using the google api. We had some difficulties doing the implementation of maps into our google maps. Furthermore we then added more difficult implementations such as geo tracked pins and added statements to check if the comment is negative or positive. We were able to let them be added. Towards the end there was a lot of trial and error to get the program finally up and running.

Challenges we ran into: During the making of our project we ran into various challenges as the day went on. As this was the first hackathon for half of our team, figuring out how to implement our ideas was a main roadblock. We first began with the challenge of getting google maps to be able to run on our website. Along with this, another challenge we faced had to be when encountering github. There were various times that the git commands did not work and often would be stuck at certain steps of implementation. To finish it off we mostly had problems with integrating our UI into our google maps implementation. Despite our challenges we were ultimately able to overcome them to make a working online website through git pages.

Accomplishments that we're proud of: We are proud that we integrated maps. We also are proud of the marker placement, both with positive and negative. We are also very proud because we learned a lot and can see a potential future with this project. This app will have a great social impact on our students, which will allow students and staff to stay safe while also seeing the beauty in daily life. What we learned: We learned how to integrate Google Maps on websites, we learned/boosted our HTML knowledge, we learned how domain hosting works, learned the difference between local and internet based services/saving.

What's next for UC U SAY: Although our current site is in beta testing, we hope that this can be expanded and implemented on all UC campuses to ensure that every student is aware of the world around them.
