Inspiration
With recent flooding in Texas and Florida, we thought it would be beneficial to warn people of any potential dangers. Currently, we are only parsing Twitter, but we would like to include
What it does
Our project searches through Tweets and picks out words that have to do with flooding. It then, if possible, uses the location information and predicts/warns of possible flooding.
How we built it
We implemented a Python API for Twitter data handling, then used Flask (a Python web framework) to make pull it all together.
Challenges we ran into
We've never used Flask, so we had to learn it from scratch. We also had troubles using the Twitter API through Java
Accomplishments that we're proud of
What we learned
We learned a little bit about Flask, as well as sharpened our HTML and Python skills.
